The Desolate Lakes

1

What is this new “experience”?

Our new event is to give as realistic an experience as possible of how life after the zombie virus topples our society. Food, shelter, protection, medicine and other life essentials we take for granted will be limited; giving you a real taste of what survival could be like.

2

What will be included on the weekend?

You’ll experience as many basic skills needed to survive the zombie apocalypse as we can replicate such as: shelter, fire making, scavenging, traps, etc.

3

Where does it take place?

These courses take place on a private estate in the middle of the English Lake District, near to the towns of Ambleside and Hawkshead. The rendezvous point is Cuckoo Brow Inn in Sawrey, Hawkshead, Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 0LF (015394 36387).

4

Do I have to pay the full amount up front?

You can pay a non-refundable deposit of £150.00 per place on booking. The remaining amount is the required no later the a week before the event is due to take place.

5

When is it available?

Our availability can be found on the booking page.

6

What time does it start / finish?

The weekend long event will start on Friday at 7.30pm, finishing on Sunday at 4 pm.

7

What if I’m late?

8

How many people can take part?

The numbers on the session may vary. Please check the booking page to check.

9

Can I take videos or photos?

No, but we will be able to provide images and possibly video after the event.

10

Can I use my phone during the event?

You can use a phone in an emergency; however please note that not all networks get signal at the venue – also, opportunities to charge your phone will be scarce. But our Event Managers will have working phones in case of emergency.

11

Who will be doing the teaching?

All the courses are run by the team from Woodsmoke who are world renowned experts in their field with strong links to Ray Mears. This means that all the skills you will be being taught can be taken away and used for real (should the apocalypse happen).

12

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring:
* warm outdoor clothing (waterproofs for example)
* Sturdy footwear (ideally bring walking boots, not trainers!)
* Sleeping bag and mat
* Camping dinner gear, namely a plate, bowl, cup, knife, spoon and fork
* A bag to carry it all in.

You'll learn how to make your own shelter (so no tents) and you'll be catching your own food!

13

Will I come face to face with a zombie?

The zombies are out there and you will have to use the new skills you have been taught to keep them at bay.

14

Is food provided?

As part of the course you will have to prepare and cook your own food which will consist of meat or fish. If you would not like to do this section of the course an alternative will be provided, however we need to know as soon as you've booked on.

15

Is there an age limit?

As with all of our events; all participants must be 16 years or older.

Be A Zombie

1

3

What time do the sessions start and finish?

The morning session runs from 10.00AM to 1:00PM and the afternoon session runs from 2.30PM to 5:30PM. Please ensure you arrive 15-30 minutes beforehand because if you’re late, you might not be able to join in.

4

What if I’m late?

If you are late, you run the risk of not being able to join the event. This is for the safety of you and others. Someone once said “the apocalypse waits for no man”.

5

Can you recommend a local taxi firm?

Our local taxi firm, Lymmited Taxis, can be contacted by email at lymmitedtaxis@hotmail.com or on 01925 393111. They can arrange pick-ups and drop-offs beforehand so you can have piece of mind on the day.

6

Are there any local hotels / deals available?

We have a deal with our nearest hotel, Britannia’s Daresbury Park hotel. To find out more, please contact the hotel on 0871 221 0202 and select option 3, just mention that you’re coming to the Zombie Manor with Zed Events.

7

How many people can take part?

Usually we can only manage 20 zombies at once, but please check our booking page to see what’s available.

8

Can I use my phone during the event?

Have you seen a zombie talking on a mobile before? As funny as it could be... mobiles aren’t allowed during the event – partly because we like the air of mystery but mainly because you’ll be dead.

9

Can I take photos or videos during the event?

You might have other things on your mind whilst your turning into a zombie, but afterwards we’ll make sure plenty of pictures are taken (mainly for the “Wanted – Dead or Alive” posters for the public awareness campaign and to inform your family of your unfortunate death).

10

Is there somewhere my partner/mum/pet cat can watch?

Nothing zombie proofed I’m afraid! But there are plenty of local pubs nearby to wait out the apocalypse in comfort and warmth.

11

Will I get shot at?

Yes, yes you will. Although you will be shot at by trained professionals, not just some yoohoo who walked in off the street. So expertly shot at. Oh, and you’ll be given mandatory eye protection to wear so we can still gaze into your eyes lovingly.

12

Are the prosthetics or make-up made of latex / anything that’ll trigger my allergies?

We've got the option to use latex applications but they are by no means mandatory and you'll still make a thoroughly disgusting zombie without the applications. Its worth to note that contact lenses will not be available, but you can wear your own if you like.

13

What should I wear?

A zombie should always look his/her best, so get on your glad rags - yeah, right! Wear anything you’re happy getting a bit messy in. Bear in mind that the venue is an abandoned Manor, so it could be damp but it is very dirty.

But don’t let your mum’s worry, the make-up and blood will wash out of clothing but there's the risk of mud and grass stains too.

We do recommend strong, sturdy footwear and you might want to bring a change of clothes.

14

Do I need to take anything with me?

The end of the world doesn't require much admin, there's no need to bring voucher codes or any other information with you. We mainly advise you remember your name, your common sense and a pair of decent shoes.

15

Will I be shown how to fall?

You will be taken through the best way to fall by our elite Zed leaders, these guys have been doing this for a while and know the best way to reach the ground without hurting themselves. Their secrets will be yours, which brings us neatly to:

16

Will I get hurt?

Getting shot stings momentarily and can leave small bruises (each is a badge of honour - wear it with pride!).

But to make sure you’re not too badly hurt, you’ll wear eye protection and will be trained on how to fall like a pro. Assuming you follow what you've been taught you should have little risk of injury, don't listen to what we say though.

17

We want to buy this as a present for a friend for their birthday / stag / hen do... can we shoot at them?

Possibly, that would have to be agreed with the Event Manager on a case-by-case basis and would require the Squad members to undergo basic Zed Events weapon training.

18

Can vegetarians join in?

Ohhhh.... Go on then, never let it be said we'd turn anyone away from the horde!

19

What happens when I "catch" a person?

And give away the best bit? The only way you’ll find out is by going to the event!

20

Do I have to “bite” people?

You might want to buy them dinner and take them to a movie first but no, we don't advise you physically consume our employees flesh. Just some A grade acting worthy of an Oscar, please!

21

If I get shot, does that mean I’m out?

Like we’re going to blab! Book on to an event and find out.

We currently run two sessions per day - one from 12.30PM to 3:30PM, and the other from 3.30PM to 6:30PM. Please ensure you arrive 15-30 minutes beforehand (but no earlier or you'll ruin the surprise!)

6

How many people can take part?

The numbers vary on the session. Please visit our event booking page to see what places are available.

7

What should I wear?

As some of the event is outside, we recommend you bring clothing that you don't mind getting dirty, though we do have boiler suits which you can wear over your clothes. Either way we recommend bringing a change of clothes and most definitely underwear.

If the weather is cold, you might want to dress warmly as there is no heating on site.

There will be some (potentially muddy) outdoor sections also so bring appropriate footwear, we recommend walking boots or something equally sturdy.

8

Can I take photos or videos during the event?

Not during the events because we'd like to keep the story-line secret so as to not ruin it for others.

You will have an opportunity to have your photo taken with the zombies and your team at the end of the event though so don't forget your camera!

9

Can I use my phone during the event?

No. Mostly because you'll be too busy trying to survive.

10

Is there somewhere my partner/mum/pet cat can watch?

Unfortunately the venues have no spectator areas but there are places we can recommend for them to wait in comfort while your loved ones are surviving the apocalypse!

5

Are there any local hotels / deals available?

We have a deal with our nearest hotel, Novotel Reading Centre. To find out more, please contact 01189 522600 or email H5432-RE@ACCOR.com stating that you’re going to the Zombie Shopping Mall with Zed Events.

6

How many people can take part?

The numbers vary on the session. Please visit our event booking page to see what places are available.

7

What should I wear?

Unlike the Manor, you do not go outside. You may still get dirty though as it is based in an unused shopping mall. The building isn't heated so in colder months wear warmer clothes. We recommend bringing a change of clothes and most definitely underwear.

You should also wear strong and sturdy footwear as the ground may be uneven at points (it is abandoned after all).

8

Can I use my phone during the event?

No. Mostly because you'll be too busy trying to survive.

9

Can I take photos or videos during the event?

Not during the events because we'd like to keep the story-line secret so as to not ruin it for others.

You will have an opportunity to have your photo taken with the zombies and your team at the end of the event though so don't forget your camera!

10

Is there somewhere my partner/mum/pet cat can watch?

Unfortunately the venues have no spectator areas but there are places we can recommend for them to wait in comfort while your loved ones are surviving the apocalypse!

11

How long will Zombie Shopping Mall be available for?

At the moment The Mall is to stay where it is! For sometime there has been a uncertain decision on the premises being demolished, but as it stands now The Mall is staying. If this issue does arise in the future refunds will be made to all booked in.

Combat

1

Are we zombie hunting?

No. This is a survival event.

2

What weapons will we use?

We use expert maintained professional Airsoft shotguns and pistols. These look and work like the real thing and fire small plastic projectiles. We will give you basic training on how to use them to stay alive!

3

Can we hit the zombies?

There is a zero tolerance on hitting or attacking zombies. They are people too, according to zombie rights activists.

(All zombies are played by actors. Please bear this in mind.)

4

Can I bring my own gun?

No, we provide the expertly maintained weapons. But if you want to use your own airsoft weapons, check out our other event Zed Adventures.

5

Do I need to be fit?

This event is physical in nature and therefore requires that participants all have a reasonable level of fitness. Any underlying medical conditions must be discussed with the organizers when booking. This experience involves live action horror and gore and as is therefore not suitable for anyone with a nervous disposition.

If you are pregnant then I am afraid we cannot let you play. If you have mild or moderate asthma, you need to let us know as we use special and smoke effects.

6

Can I have a drink or smoke to steady my nerves?

We have a zero tolerance policy on all alcoholic drinks and illegal substances. If you arrive drunk or under any influences from illegal substances, you won't be allowed to participate. We will remove you from the game if we think you've had even one drink and/or can smell alcohol on your person.

Smoking cigarettes and cigars outside and not during the event is allowed but we ask you to be aware that you may be playing with non-smokers.

7

Is there somewhere I can put my worldly goods whilst I’m surviving the apocalypse?

We can store your valuables in our safe or secure storage during the event. Typically we recommend stashing your wallets, handbags, phones, cameras, family heirlooms, etc.

8

Will I get hurt?

Not on purpose but accidents do happen. (We are accident free so far though!) You won't be shot at intentionally but the bullets can hurt.

We will provide you with protective eye wear, which you must wear at all times.

3

Are there any extra (or hidden) costs on the day?

No, none at all. Everything you need to survive the zombie apocalypse will be provided including drinks and snacks.

But we do have merchandise available at the events; so would recommend bringing your savings and splashing out on a t-shirt or key ring whilst you’re there!

4

I have a medical condition or limitation, can I still take part?

Whilst we aim to ensure everyone has an opportunity to experience the zombie apocalypse sometimes it's not always possible. Please contact our Booking Team to find out whether we can safely accommodate you onto any of our events.

10

Can we rent-a-zombie?

Of course! Please contact us either by our contact form or calling us on 01253 895763.

11

What if the weather is bad?

The zombies stop for no man; however in extreme circumstances, (such as heavy snowfall), we may have to rearrange your event. We'll give you as much notice as possible.

12

Any chance of a discount?

We have an offer at the moment for the Manor but normally we do not offer discounts for the events. This is because we offer these events at the best rate possible anyway.

13

I’ve received an email to say that places will be held for 48 hours unless I pay, but I didn’t book anything?

Whilst you may not have paid, you would have filled out the booking form with your details. If you don’t want the places, you can either ignore the emails and the places will automatically be released when the email says OR you can contact our bookings team to release the dates.

14

I have a valid code, but why is my booking “pending” and not confirmed?

All codes are from third party retailers so we have to check with them directly to see whether they’re valid. If for whatever reason the codes aren’t valid, we will try and contact you so please make sure you provide a working phone number and email. Alternatively, please contact us for assistance.
